Land Collective at the 2018 ASLA Annual Meeting and Expo

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Annual Meeting and EXPO will be held in Philadelphia this year, from October 19th through the 22nd. David A. Rubin will participate in two sessions on Saturday, October 20th, and we hope that you will join us.

SAT-01 Inside the Studio of DAVID RUBIN Land Collective
DAVID RUBIN Land Collective began with a simple mission and big ambitions: to positively inform the world and improve the human condition through landscape. This in-depth look into the work of the studio, its methodologies and aspirations, will be moderated by Ken Smith, Principal of Ken Smith Workshop. The session explores how as a young, start-up studio, we quickly grew to inform landscapes of significance across the country.

SAT-B06 Landscapes of Conflict and Memory
Landscapes and memory are inextricably connected, often with great emotional resonance. Conflict, from ancient times to the present, is written on the land. Although a palimpsest, sometimes what remains on the land is, in today’s parlance, an “alternative fact.” This session by David A. Rubin, Thäisa Way, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Washington, and C. Brian Rose, Pritchard Professor of Archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, examines the phenomena of landscape, conflict, and memory.
