For the month of February 2019, GALLERY Land Collective presents “Making Meaning Out of Mountains,” a photographic exhibition by artist Jessica Harvey that turns the lens onto fragments of one woman’s search for something greater. Digging through public and private archives, Harvey conducts long-term investigations of historical and personal events, and reinterprets these stories with the use of photography, video, archival resources, and objects constructed from everyday materials. These images and installations act as a catalyst for a fantastical exploration of the psychology that one attaches to memory and place, putting particular emphasis on the role of women in these histories. Through humor and tragedy Harvey creates a new way of re-evaluating life, death, and the mythology of our own history.
Please join us for the exhibition’s opening reception on First Friday, February 1, 6–8pm!
