LAND COLLECTIVE has been commissioned by the City of Westfield, Indiana to design the ten-acre park of Grand Junction – one of the The Indianapolis Star‘s top ten projects to watch in 2014 (number six, actually!). Primed to become the landmark park of the Midwest, the civic space is the central focus of the City’s development plan. Westfield has consistently been voted one of the best places to live in the US, and is benefiting from the youthful vibrancy of its citizens – the median age being 34.
The design of the park will incorporate pavilions, a landform amphitheater and performance venue, fountains, winter skating, the connection of historic trails, and a central “paseo” connecting Main Street with the Park. Grand Junction will become a central gathering place for festivals, markets, and other events in the City. LAND COLLECTIVE and the City of Westfield will work with the Army Corps of Engineers to remediate a stream central to the site which ties to a regional stormwater mitigation system.
In collaboration with the City, LAND COLLECTIVE will be acting as prime in the design of this signature park and has assembled a stellar team of extraordinary collaborators, including: Hollwich Kushner (HWKN), Tillett Lighting Design, Studio Lin, Stantec, ETM Associates, and FlatLand Resources. Conceptual Design will begin immediately with an anticipated construction start date of May 2015. Watch for it!
