LAND COLLECTIVE will be leading two tours at the November Green Build Nation Conference in Philadelphia. Principal David Rubin will be presenting Lenfest Plaza as part of the November 18th and 22nd tours entitled, “Urban Placemaking: A Golden Mile of Walkways, Gardens and Public Art,” which also includes Sister Cities Park, Rittenhouse Square, and Love Park. Lenfest Plaza at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, was designed by Rubin while partner at Olin, and is the threshold to Philadelphia’s Museum Mile. The newly-opened plaza creates place where there literally was none, and establishes a campus for the nation’s first fine arts school and museum. The generously proportioned urban furnishings are created utilizing sustainably-harvested Black Locust. The wood was sourced locally – harvested in New Jersey and milled in the suburbs of New York City – by Tague Lumber. The Lighting Practice created an evening atmosphere that promotes character and safety through the use of low-voltage LED lighting, among other illumination sources.
