Land Collective Won a SCUP Award for Temple University Liacouras Walk South!

Land Collective is honored to receive a SCUP honorable mention for Excellence in Landscape Architecture for our design of Liacouras Walk South at Temple University!

Liacouras Walk South transforms a fragmented, underperforming, physically and emotionally inaccessible corridor on Temple University’s Campus into a cohesive civic landscape that unites movement, gathering, and identity. Serving as a primary gateway from the broader Philadelphia community, “The Cut” establishes institutional identity and encourages connection. The central gathering space, including a sunlit tilted lawn and sculptural fountain, turns a former point of interruption into a vibrant destination. By integrating social life, infrastructure, and stormwater management within a resilient and welcoming public realm, Liacouras Walk South elevates arrival into belonging and transforms everyday circulation into a shared civic experience.

“The Cut” completes the revitalization of Temple University’s north–south pedestrian spine, memorializing a campus commitment to connectivity, identity, and community. Situated at a critical threshold between the academic campus and residential neighborhood, the project advances Temple’s broader urban design and campus vision, reinforcing its role as an inclusive civic institution within North Philadelphia. By creating a design that resonates with the Temple community, Liacouras Walk South becomes the shared front porch for the community, and turns arrival into belonging.
