Park(ing) Day is a worldwide event during which designers and businesses transform on-street 9′ x 20′ parking spaces into parklettes for one day. LAND COLLECTIVE team leader, Henry Moll, organized LC’s effort to create a unique space for people to engage one another.
Under a canopy of balloons, LC utilized a symbolic harvest table and bushels of fallen apples to create a temporary landscape wherein people from different backgrounds could meet and exchange ideas in conversation with one another. As landscape architects and urban designers, we appreciate the universal truth that gravity grounds us to a common plane that is landscape – the connective tissue in which we all engage in dialogue. From the sky to the ground, we had a tremendous time interacting with everyone that stopped by.
LAND COLLECTIVE is honored to receive the Park(ing) Day Golden Cone Award aptly named ‘Flying High, Defying Gravity’ for our ability to artfully integrate a vertical element into our design.
Well done team!
