DAVID RUBIN Land Collective worked with STUDIOS Architecture in creation of a new KIPP Charter High School in Washington, D.C. The Knowledge is Power Program schools enroll all interested students, space permitting, regardless of prior academic record, conduct or socioeconomic background. By providing a safe and structured learning environment, more time in school, and passionate, committed teachers, KIPP schools have helped students make significant academic gains. KIPP’s philosophy of inclusion aligns with DAVID RUBIN Land Collective’s vision that landscape is our most democratic environment and should be designed to serve all, whether over-privileged or under-served. On this proposed site in the Union Market District of our Nation’s Capital, refurbished playing fields, a secure but open site for the school, a new community center, and a revitalized public plaza ensure that everyone in the area, whether attending the high school or not, will benefit from the addition of the academic environment.
