Situated in Newport Beach, CA, Coyote Canyon is a rare undeveloped parcel of land located within the heart of some of the most valued real estate in the country. Originally a 200’ deep canyon, in 1963 the site was designated as the location for a landfill that would receive over 60 million cubic yards of waste over the course of the following 40 years. Layer by layer, the canyon was filled until the finished grade crested the edges of the canyon and a new high point was created. This man made landform representing a generation’s waste has the potential to become the next generation’s treasure with panoramic 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean, the coastline to Palos Verdes, the San Bernardino Mountains, downtown Los Angeles, and surrounding Orange County. Land Collective is partnering with TAIT & Associates, Inc. to re-envision this brownfield site with a range of amenities including zones for wildlife habitat, walking trails, a links style golf course, a boutique hotel and spa, a restaurant with outdoor beer garden terrace, banquet and meeting spaces. Aspirationally, the project will act as a model for the re-use of landfill sites across the country.
