Miami Lakes Bridge Park transforms a 30-acre abandoned bridge approach and overpass that traverses the I-75 Highway into an elevated landscape that serves as a green connector, physically and socially, to link the Town of Miami Lakes with it’s neighbor, Hialeah. The Bridge Park Overpass project re-imagines an abandoned highway overpass and approach and as well as its surroundings into an elevated linear park that promotes connectivity between the Miami Lakes and Hialeah communities, using infrastructure for social purpose. A series of distinct landscape experiences are curated along this “green spine,” with overlook areas that offer expansive views of the City, I-75 below, and the expanse of the broad horizon in an area of the country with little topographic change. Using the full width of the overpass and approach, the Bridge Park integrates social seating and program areas, bold land forms, tree lined paths, and open lawns to form an inclusive and engaging landscape that also brands the Town for all that pass underneath.
