One of the most progressive public hospitals in the United States, Eskenazi Health in Marion County, Indiana, intends to incorporate a Canine and Patient Therapy Garden into the holistic wellness armature of the hospital campus. Working in collaboration with the hospital’s Canine Therapy team to define an environment for both two- and four-legged companions, DAVID RUBIN Land Collective conceptualized a landscape to test and increase the agility of both human and dog; to offer space for recovering patients to visit with their pets while recuperating; and to describe a space for all to gather for both play and contemplation. The design of the garden acknowledges the different spectra of light seen by humans and dogs, describes a garden that is able to receive patients with various aspects of agility, and a place resilient to play.
