U.S. Embassy London Competition
View All

This competition entry for the new U.S. Embassy, London was designed in collaboration with Morphosis Architects. Conceived as a pavilion on a verdant Ait – a small island formation typical of the Thames – the landscape serves as transparent security barrier, symbolic garden, stormwater mitigator, and wildlife habitat. The Ambassador’s Garden, through which everyone must pass, acts as light filter for areas below ground, displays the sculptural works of American artists, and is planted with species identified in the correspondence between American John Bartram and Englishman Peter Collinson during the revolution, symbolically recognizing the strength of friendship even in times of strife. This design was led by David Rubin while partner at Olin.
